"To provide quality entertainment at reasonable and affordable costs, to meet the aspirations of the members of our society who desire to perform or to support quality drama. To bring the Theatre to the people of Stannington, rather than them having to go to it, and to uphold the principles of our constitution."

"The Stannington Players were formed out of a play reading group set up after the close of the Second World War in 1945. In the early days it's members met in peoples houses, where plays were read for pleasure. The group was so successful and popular amongst the people of Stannington and Sheffield, that it was decided to establish a full, dramatic society to allow local people to participate in drama, to perform for the entertainment of others and to provide good entertainment at a reasonable and affordable cost.
In 1951 we were formally constituted as an Organisation of Charitable Status, and became homed in the Church Hall on School Lane, in Stannington. In 1955, after Flora Lomas built and dedicated the Lomas Hall to the people of Stannington, the Society of Stannington Players moved into it's new home, and has been resident there ever since. The Society has around 25 members from 16 onwards, although being a member is not a prerequisite to taking part in a production. Even in the early days recognition was given to meeting the expectations and needs of the whole community, be they young or old, be they the paying customers of the Society, or it's members. Larger productions, such as pantomimes aften need as many as 70 people to create - the extra production- power being taken from local schools, youth drama societies and keen enthusiasts who enjoy the buzz of participating in a good production, but without the burden of having a few hundred lines to learn.
People who have performed on the stage at the Lomas Hall for The Stannington Players have go onto professional careers, we have actors with film credits, backstage crew working in the West End and have even had one former member play Elvis on Broadway. Our members also act in productions in Sheffield's most prestigious theatres, such as the Crucible and the Lyceum. Thank you for taking time to learn about us - we hope you enjoy your visit to our web site, and we hope that we can see you soon at our next production!"
