The House Manager is responsible for 'front of house', that is everything relating to the audience on performance nights. This includes overseeing the ticket office, programme sellers, refreshment staff, and ensuring that the Ushers know what their job entails. The House Manager liaises with the Stage Manager to decide when the show will start, both at the beginning of the performance and after any interval, and most importantly is responsible for the health and safety of the audience and front of house staff, and for managing any evacuation of the audience in the event of any fire or other emergency.

The Ushers' role includes directing people to their seats before a performance, to prevent log jams causing a health and safety risk. More importantly, it is their job to evacuate the audience if that becomes necessary in the event of a fire or other emergency. During the pantomime season, this job expands to include crowd control of excitable children!

The Catering Manager are the purchase of provisions for the interval and the supervision of refreshment staff, ensuring that sufficient people are available each performance to serve the audience quickly and efficiently. Being a Catering Manager has the added perk that more and more often the Producer helps with the catering on play nights, to keep them out of harms way while the production runs! Having the boss of the last few months make you tea and biscuits has it's moments!
